#16. The Most Important Tools You Need for Affiliate Marketing

To succeed in affiliate marketing, you need to use powerful tools.

The right tools can help you work faster, learn more efficiently, and improve your overall productivity.

A chef can’t cook without knives, pans, and kitchen tools.
Affiliate marketing works the same way.

There are several essential tools that can make your journey much easier.

In this article, I’m going to introduce some of the most important tools and software you’ll need to make money with affiliate marketing.

Affiliate Networks

You can think of an affiliate network as a marketplace filled with products and offers that you can promote and sell.

  • Affiliate networks are an essential part of affiliate marketing.
  • Without an affiliate network, you won’t have offers to promote.

When doing affiliate marketing, we are promoting other people’s products and services, so affiliate networks are extremely important.

Here’s the good news:

Joining an affiliate network is completely free.
You don’t have to pay anything to sign up. Affiliate networks simply earn a small percentage from the revenue you generate.

If you’re a beginner, I recommend starting with networks like:

  • Mobidea
  • Golden Goose

There are hundreds of affiliate networks out there.
The problem is that many of them are not very beginner-friendly.

From the network’s perspective, working with beginners often requires a lot of time and support.

They may need to answer questions, explain how tracking works, help with setup, and guide new affiliates through the basics.

But many beginners never end up generating traffic or revenue.

So for some affiliate networks, that support effort becomes wasted time.

  • That’s why many networks have screening processes.
They prefer working with experienced affiliates who already know what they’re doing.

In a way, it’s similar to a hiring process.

However, some affiliate networks are much more beginner-friendly and easier to join — like the two I mentioned above.

As you gain more experience, you can start joining additional affiliate networks and look for higher-performing, more profitable offers.

Tracking Software

When doing affiliate marketing professionally, using tracking software is absolutely essential.

Tracking tools are built specifically for affiliates to monitor and optimize campaigns. They allow you to track every click and conversion accurately.

For example, let’s say you’re promoting a mobile app.

If Android users convert at 3% while iPhone users convert at only 0.5%, you would obviously focus your ads on Android traffic to maximize profit.

But if you don’t know those conversion rates, you won’t be able to optimize your campaign effectively.

The only way to optimize affiliate campaigns profitably is by making decisions based on data. That’s exactly what tracking software helps you do.

For platforms like Facebook Ads and Google Ads, tracking tools also play another extremely important role.

They act as a bridge between your affiliate network and your traffic source, sending conversion data back to Facebook or Google so their machine learning systems can optimize your campaigns automatically.

Yes — tracking software is incredibly important.

In previous articles, I briefly showed you how to set up MaxConv already.
Once you become familiar with it, you’ll realize it’s actually very simple to use.

MaxConv is a powerful tracking tool while still being very affordable.
Personally, I think it’s better than many other tracking platforms on the market.

For beginners, you can even use it for free to learn and test campaigns.
MaxConv gives you up to 100,000 events, which is more than enough to get started.

Once you’re ready, you can upgrade to the $45/month plan, which includes:

  • 1,000,000 events per month
  • 10 custom domains
  • 12 months of data storage
  • Unlimited campaigns
  • 10 integrations connections

The integrations feature is especially important.

It uses APIs to connect your tracking tool directly with your traffic sources, helping ensure your data is accurate.

Integrations are practically mandatory when running Facebook Ads or Google Ads because they allow conversion data to be sent back to the advertising platforms for campaign optimization.

If you don’t want to use MaxConv, there are still many other popular tracking tools available, such as:

  • BeMob
  • Voluum
  • RedTrack
  • Binom
  • Keitaro

Each tool has its own strengths.

For example, Binom is extremely powerful and can handle massive amounts of traffic, while RedTrack has strong integrations with Facebook Ads.

In the end, the best choice depends on your needs and the type of campaigns you want to run.

Hosting

In previous articles, I already explained hosting in detail, but the core idea is simple:

Without hosting, you can’t put your landing pages online.

And in affiliate marketing, you’ll need landing pages for most campaigns because they usually convert much better than sending traffic directly to an offer.

In highly competitive niches, landing pages are often almost mandatory.

I strongly recommend having at least one VPS server.

Once you start making money, you can always upgrade to a more powerful server later.

  • If your budget is very limited, you can use shared hosting temporarily.
  • But honestly, shared hosting is usually not ideal for affiliate marketing.

You may experience downtime, slower page loading speeds, and lower conversion rates.

Shared hosting also tends to become unstable when too many visitors access the site at the same time — and that can directly hurt your campaign performance and profits.

Shared Hosting

Although I don’t really recommend using shared hosting for serious affiliate marketing, it can still be a reasonable option if you’re starting with a very small budget.

And if you know how to optimize your website properly, shared hosting can work surprisingly well in the beginning.

If you want to use shared hosting, the service I personally recommend is Hostinger.

At the very least, I suggest getting a plan around $4 per month.

If you pay yearly, the total cost is usually around $50, which is still quite affordable for beginners.

VPS Servers

If your monthly budget is around $500, I recommend getting a VPS server that costs around $20 per month.

For VPS hosting, I personally recommend DigitalOcean.

When you’re just starting out, it’s usually best to choose the cheapest plan available.
It already gives you everything you need to launch affiliate campaigns and handle a decent amount of traffic.

As your campaigns grow, they’ll also notify you when it’s time to upgrade your server to support more traffic.

Besides DigitalOcean, you can also use services like Vultr.

I used Vultr quite a lot in the past.
However, I eventually stopped using them because I had issues with account restrictions, and their affiliate commission system didn’t feel very transparent to me.

I understand that many beginners simply don’t have enough money for a VPS in the beginning, so using shared hosting is still acceptable.

But again, I don’t strongly recommend it.

When you run paid ads, many visitors may hit your website at the same time.
Shared hosting servers can easily become slow, freeze, or even crash under heavy traffic — and that can directly cost you conversions and profits.

That said, if you’re only working with smaller amounts of traffic, shared hosting can still work fine initially.

Here’s a rough estimate of the basic tools you’ll need:

  • Tracking software (MaxConv): around $45/month
  • VPS server: around $20/month

Total: about $65 per month.

Honestly, starting an online business with only $65 per month is far more realistic than opening a coffee shop or restaurant, right?

That’s one of the most interesting things about affiliate marketing.

You can think of it as a real business with relatively low startup costs — a huge opportunity for people who are willing to learn and work hard.

One important note:

You can absolutely find cheaper alternatives than the tools I mentioned above. If you spend time researching and experimenting, there are many lower-cost options available.

Alright, those are some of the essential tools you’ll need.

Now let’s move on to a few other important things…

Affiliate Marketing Forums

There are many forums and communities where affiliate marketers gather to share knowledge and discuss strategies.

Joining affiliate forums is one of the best ways to keep learning.

The reality is that most successful affiliates don’t usually give away detailed advice for free.

I’m writing this guide to help you launch your first campaigns, but affiliate marketing is an extremely large industry.

There are many different niches, traffic sources, and business models.

If you truly want to become highly skilled and make serious money with affiliate marketing, you need to focus deeply on a specific area.

And if you find a high-quality forum, you can learn a huge amount of useful tactics and strategies for improving different parts of your campaigns.

Right now, two of the best affiliate marketing forums are:

  • STM Forum — around $99/month
  • AffLift — around $25/month

STM Forum

STM Forum is one of the strongest and most respected affiliate marketing communities in the industry.

It has been around for many years and has attracted a large number of experienced affiliates and industry experts.

The forum itself is not as active as it used to be in terms of daily posting, because nowadays they focus much more heavily on offline events and networking conferences.

And honestly, their events are extremely high quality.

Many highly skilled affiliates attend these events, share strategies, and discuss what’s currently working in the market.

They also record and archive many of the event videos, so members can watch and learn from them later.

Personally, I’ve learned a lot from those event recordings.

So what can you actually find inside the forum?

  • A community filled with experienced affiliates
  • Advice and real-world insights from other marketers
  • Super affiliates regularly answering questions and comments
  • Discussions about niches and markets that are currently performing well
  • Case studies of both successful and failed campaigns
  • Detailed campaign breakdowns and optimization strategies

And one of the most valuable things is this:

People often share real campaigns they are actively running inside the forum.

That kind of practical information can be incredibly valuable when you’re trying to improve your own affiliate marketing skills.

AffLift (A Beginner-Friendly Affiliate Forum)

If STM Forum feels like a community for advanced affiliates, then AffLift is more like a playground for beginners.

Once you join, you’ll see many people who are in the same situation you are — learning affiliate marketing, launching campaigns, and trying to make money online.

A lot of beginners post “follow along” campaign journals where they share their progress step by step.

More experienced affiliates often join the discussion and leave advice, feedback, and optimization suggestions for those campaigns.

You can learn a huge amount just by reading those discussions, even if you’re not actively running campaigns yourself yet.

If you can’t afford expensive high-level courses, forums like this are honestly one of the best places to learn affiliate marketing.

There are also some free affiliate forums online, but personally, I don’t recommend most of them.

A lot of the information there is low quality, outdated, or misleading — and bad advice can easily ruin your campaigns and waste your budget.

What You Should Be Careful About When Learning From Forums

When learning from affiliate marketing forums, you need to stay sharp and think critically.

There is an enormous amount of information being posted constantly.
For beginners, it’s very easy to feel overwhelmed.

I’ve personally spent entire weeks scanning through forum discussions and ended up mentally exhausted from information overload.

That’s why learning how to filter information is extremely important.

  • Not everything posted on forums is correct.
  • You’ll find all kinds of opinions, strategies, and conflicting advice.

One important thing to understand is this:

People usually do not reveal everything publicly.

  • Most affiliates only share certain parts of their process.
  • The real core strategies that make them the most money are often kept private.

And honestly, that’s understandable.

So when learning from forums, you need to develop the ability to connect different pieces of information together and slowly build the bigger picture yourself.

Outsourcing and Hiring Help

One of the advantages of online business is that you can hire freelancers from anywhere in the world to help with tasks you’re too busy to do, don’t want to do, or simply don’t know how to do.

Once you understand the basics of affiliate marketing and online business, you can start thinking about outsourcing certain tasks.

Don’t know how to build landing pages or design banners?
Then hire help — or today, use AI tools.

Here are two tools I strongly recommend:

  • ChatGPT — great for image design, translation, ad copywriting, brainstorming, and content creation
  • Manus AI — useful for automation, fixing code, editing landing pages, and technical tasks

Honestly, these days I don’t really recommend hiring freelancers on platforms like Fiverr or Upwork for many beginner-level tasks anymore.

AI can already handle a huge percentage of the work — often around 80% — and the results are surprisingly good.

Personally, I’ve also had some very bad experiences hiring freelancers in the past.

That’s why I think beginners no longer need to spend heavily on outsourcing just to get started.

With tools like ChatGPT and Manus AI, you already have enough power to enter the game.

Welcome to the AI era.

Spy Tools (Ad Intelligence Tools)

Spy tools allow you to analyze other advertisers’ campaigns.

With these tools, you can:

  • See what landing pages they are using
  • Analyze their ad creatives
  • Discover which offers they are promoting

When you want to understand exactly what other marketers are running, spy tools become extremely valuable.

If you can see what successful advertisers are already doing, you can learn much faster.

One of the biggest advantages of spy tools is that they allow you to study profitable campaigns, understand how they work, and model your own campaigns based on proven ideas.

And honestly, you do not need to reinvent the wheel.

Other marketers have already spent huge amounts of money testing campaigns. Your job is to study what works, improve it, and adapt it to your own style.

If you do this correctly, you can dramatically increase your chances of building profitable campaigns.

There are many spy tools in the affiliate marketing industry, but the one I personally recommend most is:

  • AdPlexity — around $149/month

Right now, AdPlexity is considered one of the leading spy tools in the industry.

Their database is extremely large and covers many different advertising formats, including:

  • Desktop ads — campaigns running on desktop traffic
  • Mobile ads — campaigns targeting mobile users
  • YouTube ads — video advertising campaigns
  • Social ads — especially Facebook advertising campaigns

The version you choose depends on the traffic source and advertising platform you plan to focus on.

VPN Tools

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network.

In simple terms, a VPN allows you to browse the internet using an IP address from another country.

This is extremely useful in affiliate marketing because many offers are geo-restricted.

For example, an affiliate offer may only be visible to users from a specific country.
If you access the page from outside the target region, you might see a blank page, a redirect, or completely different content.

Affiliate networks often do this to:

  • Protect their campaigns from competitors
  • Filter unwanted traffic
  • Reduce moderation risks
  • Prevent unauthorized spying on offers

That’s why VPNs are such an important tool for affiliates.

Before promoting an offer, you usually want to inspect the full funnel carefully:

  • What does the landing page look like?
  • Is the page optimized well?
  • How aggressive is the sales copy?
  • What devices or countries are being targeted?

A VPN allows you to view the offer exactly the way real users in the target country would see it.

VPNs also provide additional privacy and security benefits by hiding your real IP address and encrypting your browsing activity.

There are many VPN and proxy services available on the market today.

Personally, I recommend using reliable proxy providers combined with anti-detect browsers or browser profile tools if you plan to run ads seriously at scale.

Some popular proxy providers include:

  • Oxylabs
  • Bright Data
  • SOAX

For beginners, though, even a simple VPN setup is usually enough to start researching offers and analyzing campaigns across different countries.

Final Thoughts

Out of all the tools I mentioned above, the two most important ones you should seriously consider investing in are:

  • A tracking tool
  • A VPS or reliable hosting setup

That said, traditional VPS hosting is not your only option anymore.

Platforms like Amazon Web Services and Cloudflare also offer powerful cloud infrastructure that can sometimes be even more efficient than a standard VPS — while still remaining affordable.

The most important thing is to spend time learning how these tools work and preparing your campaigns carefully before spending large amounts of money on ads.

Affiliate marketing rewards preparation, patience, and continuous learning.

Good luck with your affiliate marketing journey.
