How to Stop Visitors from Pogo-Sticking Off Your Site

Let’s talk about a big issue that kills your SEO: pogo-sticking.

That’s when a user clicks your article, skims it, then immediately hits the back button and keeps bouncing through other results—
until they finally find the answer you didn’t give them fast enough.

The truth is, most people have internet-induced attention deficit.
If you don’t give them what they came for within the first few seconds, they’re gone. Brutal, but true.

So what do you do?

  • Answer the query immediately—no fluff, no build-up.
  • Use formatting (like tables or bold headers) to make the info scannable.
  • Avoid outrageous, overhyped titles like:
“How to Get a Six-Pack and Make $1M by Next Thursday.”
Even if someone clicks, they’ll bounce the moment you don’t deliver—because they never believed it in the first place.

Respect the reader. Give value fast. Keep them on your page.
