How to Know If a Product Idea Will Actually Sell on Amazon

When researching a new product idea, the most important question to answer is:
Are enough people consistently buying this type of product?

A common mistake is assuming that a high number of reviews means high current sales. But that’s not always true. Some listings with thousands of reviews may have built up over time but now only sell a few units per day.

So how do you know what’s actually selling right now?

The answer lies in something called the Best Sellers Rank (BSR)—a number assigned to every product on Amazon. This rank tells you how well a product is selling compared to others in the same category.

Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • The lower the BSR number, the higher the sales volume.
  • You can use this number to estimate how many units a product sells each day or month.

By looking beyond surface-level metrics like review count—and focusing on real performance data like BSR—you’ll get a much clearer picture of true market demand.

That’s how you validate product ideas the smart way.
