Business Name vs. Store Name vs. Brand Name — What’s the Difference?

Feeling overwhelmed by all the different terms involved in setting up your Amazon business? You’re not alone. Here’s a simple example to make things clearer:

Imagine you’re Sam Walson, the founder of Walmart.

  • You create a business called Walson Enterprises.
→ This is your business name—used to register your LLC and handle taxes. Only Amazon and the IRS will usually see this.
  • You then open a large retail store and call it Walmart.
→ This is your store name on Amazon. It’s visible on your listings, and if you’re enrolled in Brand Registry, shoppers can click it to visit your Amazon storefront.
  • Inside that store, you sell a variety of product lines like Great Value, Equate, and Mainstays.
→ Each of these is a brand name—the name you trademark and use on your product packaging. You can have multiple brands under one store.

To summarize:
Business Name = for Amazon, banks, legal and tax purposes
Store Name = what customers see on Amazon
Brand Name = what you trademark and display on products

Understanding this structure helps you build your business professionally from day one.
